I can’t believe summer come and gone so quickly, it seems like a few trip’s to the lake and that was all she wrote. Today is Opening Day for archery season, actually managed to get my tags and everything ready last night, up before the sun this morning and out to the woods I go… Spent a few hours on my favorite stand, the deer stayed bedded down, only saw one from the stand and I had to practically go step on her to get her up and moving. Bumped a couple others while going to check on the other stand. Still pretty warm up here yet, 47F this morning, the high should top off around 70 today, so early morning hunting is all there will be for a spell yet, kind of a pain since they’ll need to be deboned and stuff within a few hours of harvesting them because of the temps.
Just as well, need to get 14-15 cords of wood cut down, split and stacked to be ready for the winter. Have you seen the price of propane lately? It’s only going to get worse, last year I shorted myself, spent too much time hanging around in the trees instead of cutting them down. Actually ran through a little over 10 cords before December was done and had to switch over to LP for heat for the rest of the winter… made for a cold couple of months. We prefer it to be 85ish in the house through winter.
Isn’t that the oddest thing, last week we were still running the air conditioning to keep the house below 80, then along comes winter and if it drops below 85 it’s time to start feeding the wood stove and fireplace to crank up the heat. A bunch of odd ducks we are.
Off to sharpen the chains for the saw and try to get some work done, maybe this evening I’ll still have enough energy left to get back out in the woods and see if I can find that 12 pointer that has been taunting me the past month or so by hanging around the backyard.
