Damn ABC and their silly idea that playing re-runs of Lost, what are they trying to do convince me to turn off the satellite dish now? That ’s the only thing on the TV worthy of me dedicating an hour of my time to watch and they ruin it by showing old stuff. Didn’t even bother to turn it on tonight, instead managed to get a few chores done around the house that I’d planned on putting off until tomorrow.

I guess now I’m a day ahead of the game so I should get a night off right? I wish, the honey-do list grows at three times the rate I can possibly complete projects. Try as I might, I try to knock off one or two things a night. Hell there was a time I was keeping a running tally on my old Palm VII, but it would have run out of memory by now trying to track all of this stuff.

Guess the worst part is the antique spinning wheel I need to refinish is sitting on the spa cover since my little wood shop is full and we’d rather the dogs not find it to be a tasty chew toy, so can’t even slip in there for a good soaking. But it’ll be gorgeous when I’m done with it…. Angel dated it a while ago, somewhere around mid to late 1800’s. Pretty neat. I’ll get some pictures posted up here when I get some time.

Off-Site backups are a must in todays world, now perhaps some people will rethink about what and how they send data off site… I love the final statement, the data is compressed and couldn’t be accessed without special equipment. My reading of it says read the first few bytes on the tape and you’ll know what software was used to create the backup and most anyone can take a look at the tape and determine what kind of drive is needed to read it. The one word missing from the companies statements is ENCRYPTION! I hope it was intentionally left out of the press release.
Sounds like they need to look into a new off site storage company too…

Ameritrade Loses 200,000 Client Files

Omaha, Neb. — If you used Ameritrade to buy stocks online between 2000 and 2003, your personal information may be at risk.

The leading online discount broker said Wednesday that a third-party vendor lost a backup computer tape containing the personal information of about 200,000 current and former customers.

A company spokeswoman said the data was different for each client and may have included their Social Security numbers, among other information.

The company said it has begun notifying people of the loss.

The spokeswoman said Ameritrade hasn’t heard of any of the information being misused.

She said the company was “very confident” that “no harm has been done to any clients, to their accounts, to their information.”

The spokeswoman also said the tapes weren’t marked and the compressed data couldn’t be accessed without special equipment.

A quick check in Google show my little blog ranked at #9 out of 795 pages for the term fukitol. If I could figure out an easy way to write the name on some capsules I’ve never have work again.
